Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project

The Rosamond Mojave Rehabilitation Project covers an eight-mile stretch of State Route 14 in Kern County, from 1.4 miles south of the Dawn Road overcrossing to 0.54 miles north of the Silver Queen Road overcrossing. This project rehabilitated pavement, on- and off-ramps, adjacent shoulders, and upgraded metal beam guardrail (MBGR), traffic loop detectors, and other facilities.

Project Public Meeting

Caltrans District 9 hosted a digital public meeting on the Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project on October 6, 2020.

Project Documents

In March 2022, Caltrans issued a new Initial Study with Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration. To request a copy:

Project Costs

The total cost of the Rosamond-Mojave Rehabilitation Project is $53 million

  • $8.7 million has been funded by Senate Bill 1 
  • $43 million is the construction cost

Project Timeline

Project Schedule (Subject to Change):

  • October 3, 2020: Mobilization stage began.
  • October 6, 2020: Caltrans hosted a digital public meeting on the project.
  • November 3, 2020: Construction crews began shoulder work.
  • February 2021: All traffic switched to the northbound lanes.
  • August 20, 2021: The outside southbound lane and the southbound ramps for Silver Queen Road, Dawn Road and Backus Road reopened.
  • August 30, 2021: Traffic switched to the southbound lanes.
  • October 2021: Crews began placing rebar and Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on the northbound lanes.
  • December 2021: Crews finished placing Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement on the inside northbound lane, completing that stage of the project.
  • July 2022: All major work has been completed. Crews continue minor work on the inside southbound lane.
  • September 2022: Work on inside southbound lane concluded and K-rail removed
  • October 2022: Estimated completion date of construction.
