What you need to know: The Tom’s Place intersection will experience brief, intermittent closures over the next two weeks while crews rehabilitate the pavement.
MONO COUNTY — Drivers may encounter brief closures of travel lanes through the Tom’s Place intersection of U.S. 395 in Mono County as construction continues on the Rock Creek Pavement Project. Crews are currently working through the project area rehabilitating the pavement ahead of the application of Hox-Mix Asphalt, scheduled to start in early July.
To accommodate the work, construction crews will briefly close individual lanes of traffic through the Tom’s Place intersection until July 2. These closures may impact the northbound/southbound travel lanes of U.S. 395, the turn lanes through the intersection, and access to or from the highway from Upper Rock Creek Road and Owens Gorge Road.
These individual lane closures may result in 20-minute delays. During closures of the intersection, there will be traffic-control measures directing drivers to temporary detours at South Landing Road or Lower Rock Creek Road.
Construction on the project will pause over Independence Day weekend. When work resumes, crews will apply Hot-Mix Asphalt through the project area, which will require additional brief closures. Here is a look at the current schedule for this project through the end of July:
- June 19 – July 2: Crews rehabilitate the highway using a full-depth reclamation of the current pavement. Temporary closures where work is happening.
- July 2 – July 6: Independence Day work pause.
- July 7 – July 23: Hot-Mix Asphalt applied to highway. Temporary closures where work is happening.
- Late July: Owens Gorge Road and Upper Rock Creek Road at U.S. 395 repaved.
Caltrans reminds all drivers that work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment or materials, or any construction-related issues.
