MONO COUNTY — Three popular Mono County highways have reopened from their winter closure. As of noon today, State Route 89 (Monitor Pass), State Route 120 E (Mono Mills Road), and State Route 158 N (North June Lake Loop) are open to the traveling public. Monitor Pass originally went into its winter closure on January 25, 2025. At just 72 days, it is the shortest closure of the mountain pass in a decade.

All other winter closures in Mono and Inyo counties remain in place. This includes:

  • State Route 108 (Sonora Pass)
  • State Route 120 W at the Lee Vining Gate
  • State Route 270 (Bodie Road)
  • State Route 168 W at Aspendell
  • State Route 203 at Mammoth Mountain Lodge

The Crestview Safety Roadside Rest Area north of Mammoth Lakes also remains in its winter closure. Caltrans crews are working on the facility to prepare it for the spring and summer travel season.

Inclement weather may still be in the forecast and Caltrans will close these highways again should conditions warrant it.
