KERN COUNTY – Eastbound State Route 58 will be reduced to a single lane on Tuesday, January 7, so Caltrans maintenance crews can perform a variety of necessary highway repairs. The closure will affect roughly three miles of the outside lane and shoulder of the highway, from just east of State Route 223 to just west of Hart Flat Road. The closure will begin at 8:00 am and conclude at 2:30 pm. Westbound traffic will not be affected.

During the closure, maintenance crews will install new guideposts and mile markers that have been damaged over the years, as well as crack seal the pavement throughout the closure area to improve ride quality.

Drivers are advised there is no immediate detour around the lane closure. Caltrans and CHP will monitor traffic throughout the day and may alter the closure length as maintenance work progresses.
