MONO COUNTY - A portion of State Route 203 in Mammoth Lakes entered into its annual winter closure today. The highway is now closed for the season just west of the Mammoth Mountain Lodge. Drivers will still be able to use State Route 203 to access the Town of Mammoth Lakes and Mammoth Mountain, but will not be able to access Minaret Vista Point or Reds Meadow until the road reopens next spring.

State Route 203 is the first District 9 highway to go into its seasonal closure. All other highways remain open, though drivers are encouraged to check the weather before they travel as some roads may close for winter storms.

With the snowy season fast approaching, now is the best time to prepare your vehicle for winter weather driving. Drivers should check their windshield wipers to see if they are in good shape and have snow chains at the ready when traveling at higher elevations. To make sure you’re fully prepared, Caltrans has put together a video detailing what you should pack before hitting the road: Packing for Winter Travel.
