7th Standard Road Roundabout Project
Project Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes improvements to the intersection of State Route 43 and 7th Standard Road in the City of Shafter in Kern County. The project would replace the existing four-way stop with a roundabout. The roundabout would have an approximately 200-foot diameter with a 10-foot truck apron. The circulatory path surrounding the center of the roundabout would have a concrete pavement with contrasted surface treatment for the truck apron, along with minor raised slopes to accommodate oversized, large load trucks. The roadways would have concrete splitter islands separating the direction of travel within the roundabout approaches and departures. The roundabout would include sidewalks, curbs, and bike ramps for pedestrian traffic. The intersection project would include lighting, flashing beacons, and utility relocation. New right-of-way will be required for construction of the project.

The purpose of the project is to improve the operational performance at the existing all-way stop-controlled intersection of State Route 43 and 7th Standard Road.
