US-101 Capital Preventive Maintenance Project, Marin County
Project Overview
Caltrans is scheduled to go into construction for the Capital Preventive Maintenance (CAPM) project in mid-May 2026.

The project will pave US-101 and the on- and off-ramps from Wornum Creek Undercrossing to the Miller Creek Bridge.
The project covers approximately 7.30 miles, totaling 54.2 lane miles of roadway improvements.
The target completion of the project is summer of 2027, weather permitting.
Pavement rehabilitation is a roadway maintenance effort focused on extending the service life of existing pavement and delaying the need for more extensive rehabilitation or full reconstruction. This type of work is not intended to significantly increase or restore the pavement’s structural integrity. Rather, its primary goals are to:
- Preserve pavement that is currently in fair or good condition
- Delay further deterioration of the roadway structure
- Improve overall ride quality for motorists
Common Treatments Included in this project:
- Digouts – Targeted repairs to localized pavement failures
- Grinding and Replacing Pavement – Removing and resurfacing worn pavement areas
- Shoulder Backing – Performed where needed to support pavement edges
- Upgrading Striping and Markings – Enhancing visibility and compliance with current standards
- Guardrail Upgrades – Replacing or upgrading guardrails to meet safety requirements
- These treatments work together to enhance road safety, driving comfort, and long-term cost-effectiveness without the disruption and expense of full reconstruction.
