Oakland Alameda Access Project Newsletter
Welcome to the Oakland Alameda Access Project Newsletter!
We’re here to keep you informed about upcoming work, what you may see along the route, and how the project is moving forward.
So what is happening?
The first day of the project was Monday March 2nd, 2026. Crews mobilized to begin preparation work in the areas where the first phase of the work will take place. Sign installations, K-rail and water barrier installation, striping of temporary bike and traffic lanes and various electrical components are being installed before construction work can begin.

What is being worked on no?
Safety enhancement work has begun on the Eastside (or right side) of Oak Street between 3rd street and 9th street. The Sidewalk and ramps will be upgraded with an eventual restriping for a 2-way cycle track between 3rd and 9th street. Currently crews are saw cutting and removing concrete slabs, beginning at 3rd street and working up to 9th street. This operation will take roughly 6 months to complete, then switch to the other side of Oak Street. The I-880 Oak Street Off Ramp will be widened as 6th street will eventually become a three-lane street with multimodal access between Oak St and Washington St.
