Long-Term Full Closure of Southbound Appian Way Overcrossing

Tentatively scheduled Friday, November 13, 2026

Contra Costa County — Caltrans has scheduled a long-term full closure of the southbound Appian Way Overcrossing to replace the bridge’s north abutment.The closure is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 13, 2026, at 9 p.m. During construction:

• Southbound Appian Way Overcrossing will remain closed.
• RIGHT TURN ONLY from eastbound and westbound I-80 at Appian Way will not be permitted.
• The northbound Appian Way bridge will operate as two-way traffic with one lane in each direction.
• The left-turn lane to the westbound I-80 on-ramp from northbound Appian Way will be closed to protect workers and the traveling public.

The closure is tentatively scheduled to end in spring 2027.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time. Be work zone alert, drive with caution through the work zone.

SB Appian Way to EB Route 80

1. Take WB I- 80 on ramp from Appian Way
2. Exit WB I-80 off ramp to Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
3. Turn left onto Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
4. Take the EB I-80 on ramp from Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr

NB Appian Way to WB Route 80:

1. Take EB I-80 on ramp from Appian Way
2. Exit EB I-80 to Pinole Valley Rd
3. Turn left onto Pinole Valley Rd
4. Take the WB I- 80 on ramp from Pinole Valley Rd

WB Route 80 to SB Appian Way:

1. Exit WB I- 80 off ramp to Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
2. Turn left onto Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
3. Take the EB I-80 on ramp from Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
4. Exit EB I- 80 off ramp to Appian Way

EB Route 80 to NB Appian Way:

1. Exit EB I-80 to Pinole Valley Rd
2. Turn left onto Pinole Valley Rd
3. Take the WB I-80 on ramp from Pinole Valley Rd
4. Exit WB I-80 off-ramp to Appian Way

Important Notes

• Caltrans has turned on Changeable Message Signs (CMS) to notify the public and areactivated on Westbound Interstate 80 (I-80).
• No Left turns allowed at Appian Way OC RIGHT TURNS ONLY.
• Local detours will be shared on social media.
