55-Full Weekend Closure of Appian Way Overcrossing Scheduled in City ofPinole, Contra Costa County

Friday, Nov. 13 to Monday, Nov. 16

Contra Costa County — Caltrans is planning a long-term full closure of the southbound Appian Way Overcrossing near I-80 to replace the bridge’s north abutment. However, before the closure begins, Caltrans will implement a full 55-hour weekend closure of both the northbound and southbound Appian Way Overcrossing from 9 p.m. Friday, November 13, through 4 a.m. Monday, November 16, to install the new traffic configuration for the southbound bridge.

During the weekend closure, all traffic will be prohibited on the Appian Way Overcrossing. By Monday morning, the northbound bridge will be converted to two-way traffic, with one lane in each direction, to accommodate traffic during the southbound bridge’s long-term closure.

The long-term closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, November 16, 2026, at 4 a.m. or once traffic configuration is complete.

55-Hour Full weekend Closure Traffic Impacts:

• Traveling across APPIAN WAY Overcrossing will be prohibited by all. (No bikes orpedestrians)
• All traffic from Southbound and Northbound Appian Way will be diverted to Eastboundand Westbound I-80 on ramps.
• Appian Way off ramps from I-80 will be CLOSED.

SB Appian Way to EB Route 80:

1. Take WB Route 80 on ramp from Appian Way
2. Exit WB Route 80 off ramp to RichmondPkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
3. Turn left onto Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
4. Take the EB Route 80 on ramp fromRichmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr

WB Route 80 to SB Appian Way:

1. Exit WB Route 80 off ramp to RichmondPkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
2. Turn left onto Richmond Pkwy/Fitzgerald Dr
3. Continue on Fitzgerald Dr
4. Turn right onto SB Appian Way

EB Route 80 to NB Appian Way:

1. Exit EB Route 80 to Pinole Valley Rd
2. Turn left onto Pinole Valley Rd
3. Turn left onto San Pablo Ave from PinoleValley Rd
4. Turn left onto NB Appian Way

NB Appian Way to WB Route 80:

1. Take EB Route 80 on ramp from Appian Way
2. Exit EB Route 80 to Pinole Valley Rd
3. Turn left onto Pinole Valley Rd
4. Take the WB Route 80 on ramp from PinoleValley Rd

Important Notes

• Caltrans has turned on Changeable Message Signs (CMS) to notify the public and are activated onInterstate 80 (I-80) and local streets.
• No access to Appian Way from I-80 off ramps.
• Southbound Appian Way Overcrossing bridge will remain closed from Nov.13 to spring 2027

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time.
