Update: Short-Term Full Closures on SR-82 (El Camino Real) in Burlingame for Tree Work

Closures to take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

San Mateo County ― Caltrans has scheduled upcoming closures on El Camino Real in Burlingame to continue tree removal work. To preserve and reinvigorate the historic grove, crews will remove aging eucalyptus trees and replace them with various saplings to keep the corridor safe and healthy.

To facilitate this work, daily full closures will be in place on Chapin Ave to Floribunda Ave from Monday, September 28 until Friday, October 2. Closures will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A full closure will also be in place on Burlingame Ave to Chapin Ave on October 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Chapin Ave to Floribunda Ave

• Northbound and southbound lanes to remain closed
• Monday, September 28 until Friday, October 2
• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Burlingame Ave to Chapin Ave

• Northbound and southbound lanes to remain closed
• Monday, October 5
• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Motorists should plan to follow the authorized, posted detours. because many side streets adjacent to El Camino Real are too narrow to accommodate large traffic volumes and can quickly become gridlocked and dangerous.

During the closure periods, full efforts will be made to allow residents to access their driveways and El Camino Real.

Detour: Chapin Ave to Floribunda Ave

Driving north on El Camino Real, turn right on Chapin Ave, left on Primrose Road, left on Floribunda Ave, and right on to El Camino Real.

Driving south on El Camino Real, turn left on Floribunda Ave, right on Primrose Road, right on Chapin Ave, and left on to El Camino Real.

Detour: Burlingame Ave to Chapin Ave

Driving north on El Camino Real, turn right on Burlingame ave, left on Primrose Rd, left on Chapin Ave, and right on to El Camino Real.

Driving south on El Camino Real, turn left on Chapin Ave, right on Primrose Rd, right on Burlingame Ave, and left on to El Camino Real.

Please note:

• Left turns are prohibited on State Route 82 (El Camino Real) in active construction zones where only one lane of traffic is open in each direction

The $173M El Camino Real roadway rehabilitation project will maintain El Camino Real as a safe, accessible, and reliable transportation corridor. The project encompasses repaving the road and upgrading sidewalks for enhanced mobility. It also aims to reduce localized flooding and to improve visibility.
