Middle Mile Broadband Project Continues Installation along US-101, I-580, State Route 1 in Marin County in Summer, Fall 2026

Work scheduled nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in various locations

Marin County — Caltrans is continuing ongoing closures related to the Middle Mile Broadband Project along Eastbound and Westbound Interstate-580 (I-580), Northbound and Southbound US-101 and Northbound and Southbound State Route 1 (SR-1).

Working in partnership with the California Department of Technology (CDT), Caltrans is supporting efforts to construct the middle-mile broadband network.

Construction is being conducted during overnight hours, specifically between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions.

California is strengthening broadband connections to improve access to education, health services and employment opportunities throughout the state.

In July 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 156 to create the Middle-Mile Broadband Initiative, the first step to creating an open-access, middle-mile network to bring internet connectivity to homes businesses and community institutions.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

This project is tentatively scheduled for completion by spring 2027.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area. Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time. Be work zone alert, drive with caution through the work zone.
