Northbound, Southbound Ramp Closures Scheduled for Freitas Parkway as Part of Roundabout Project in City of San Rafael

Schedule: Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 19

Marin County - Caltrans is scheduled to close on- and off-ramps on Northbound and Southbound US-101 from Monday, June 15 to Friday, June 19 for the installation of permanent erosion control, paving activities, final signage placement, and pavement striping. This is part of the Manuel T. Freitas roundabout project in San Rafael.

The following ramps will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next mornings during that time period:

  • Southbound loop on-ramp from Eastbound Freitas Parkway
  • Southbound off-ramp to Freitas Parkway

Additionally, the following ramps will be closed nightly during various days from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next mornings:

  • Northbound off-ramp to Westbound Freitas Parkway
  • Northbound on-ramp from Eastbound Freitas Parkway
  • Northbound on-ramp from Redwood Highway

Caltrans opened the roundabout as well as the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Redwood Highway on the morning of Monday, June 8. The intersection had been closed since February to necessitate the construction of the roundabout, a new bus stop and northbound slip on-ramp.

  • From Westbound Freitas to Southbound US-101, go westbound on Freitas and take a U-turn
  • Go eastbound on Freitas Parkway
  • Take the Southbound US-101 ramp from Freitas to get onto Southbound US-101

Detour for Southbound US-101 off-ramp to Freitas Parkway

  • Take Southbound US-101 and take the off-ramp at San Pedro Road
  • Go Southbound on Merrydale Road
  • Go eastbound on San Pedro Road
  • Take the Northbound US-101 on-ramp from San Pedro Road
  • Take Northbound US-101
  • Take the Northbound US-101 off-ramp to Westbound Freitas Parkway

Detour from Northbound US-101 to Freitas Parkway

  • Take Northbound US-101 and take the off-ramp to Lucas Valley Road
  • Go Westbound on Lucas Valley Road
  • Take Southbound US-101 on-ramp from Lucas Valley Road
  • Get on Southbound US-101 and take the off-ramp to Freitas Parkway

Detour from Freitas Parkway To Northbound US-101

  • Go eastbound on Freitas Parkway
  • Take the Southbound US-101 on-ramp on Freitas Parkway
  • Take the off-ramp to San Pedro Road
  • Go southbound on Merrydale Drive
  • Go eastbound on San Pedro Road
  • Take the Northbound US-101 on-ramp from San Pedro Road to US-101

Detour from Redwood Highway to Northbound US-101

  • From Redwood Highway/Civic Center Drive, go Westbound on Freitas Parkway and make a U-turn
  • Go Eastbound on Freitas Parkway
  • Take the Northbound US-101 on-ramp from Freitas Parkway to get onto Northbound US-101

All construction is scheduled to finish by the end of June.
