Reminder: Third of Three Weekend Closures Scheduled for 19th Avenue (State Route 1) Rehabilitation Project in City of San Francisco

Schedule: 75-hour closure from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25 starting at 7 a.m.

San Francisco County — Caltrans is scheduled to begin the third weekend closure for the 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25. This is the second phase of the project as the first phase was completed in January 2026.

The schedule for the final weekends is a 75-hour closure from Friday, May 22 from 7 a.m. until Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. on Southbound/Northbound 19th Avenue from Sloat Boulevard to Holloway Avenue.

Two lanes will be closed with one lane open for public transit, emergency responders, and local access.

Organizing the work in three weekend closures will reduce impact on the public from 40 to 10 days.

The second phase of this project repaves all northbound and southbound lanes of 19th Avenue (also known as State Route 1) between Lincoln Way and Holloway Avenue, approximately 18.8 lane miles, and the Park Presidio Boulevard and the California Street intersection.

The California Street/Park Presidio intersection will be repaved later during the summer. The schedule also includes upgrading the traffic detection system.

Parking on 19th Avenue will be restricted to work zones during weekend closures; parking is permitted on side streets.

Even though one lane will always remain open to traffic while repaving is underway, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes.

Daytime alternate route: Northbound Holloway Ave. to Sloat Blvd.

  • Right on Junipero Serra Blvd.
  • Left on Sloat Boulevard

Nightly southbound detour: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Left on Sloat Boulevard
  • Right on Junipero Serra Blvd.

Nightly northbound detour: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Right on Junipero Serra Blvd.
  • Left on Sloat Boulevard

Daytime detour map for the closure of northbound 19th Avenue between Holloway Ave and Sloat Blvd. Motorists traveling northbound on 19th Avenue should steer right onto Junipero Serra Blvd before turning left on Sloat Blvd to return to19th Avenue.Nighttime detour map for the closure of 19th Avenue between Holloway Ave and Sloat Blvd. Motorists traveling northbound on 19th Avenue should steer right onto Junipero Serra Blvd before turning left on Sloat Blvd to return to19th Avenue. Motorists traveling southbound on 19th Avenue should turn left onto Sloat Blvd and then turn right onto Junipero Serra Blvd to get back to 19th Avenue.
