Full Reopening Restores Traffic Flow on Freeway Before Monday Morning Rush
San Francisco County ― Caltrans is pleased to announce that the extensive work requiring the full weekend closure of eastbound Interstate 80 (EB I‑80) Bayshore Freeway between 17th and 4th streets was successfully completed today at 11:13 p.m. Sunday, April 19—approximately 7 hours ahead of schedule.
This highly coordinated, around‑the‑clock operation rehabilitated nearly two miles of freeway and also created an opportunity for construction crews to complete repairs on the 4th Street off‑ramp—a related project that would otherwise have required its own weekend closure at a later date. By efficiently integrating both efforts into the same work window, Caltrans has eliminated the need for that future closure, reducing impacts on motorists and minimizing additional disruptions along the corridor.
Caltrans extends its sincere appreciation to all travelers who adjusted their weekend plans—whether by taking public transportation, using designated detours, or postponing trips through the corridor. Your cooperation significantly reduced congestion, enhanced safety for work crews, and played a vital role in enabling the early reopening.
