Overnight Lane Closures Scheduled on U.S. 101 in San Mateo

Published:

Schedule: March 23-28, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

San Mateo County ― Caltrans has scheduled intermittent closures of the far-left lanes (sometimes called "fast lanes") in both directions of U.S. 101 between Whipple Ave. in Redwood City and Broadway Ave. in Burlingame so that crews can safely work on the median barrier while they inject expanding foam to create a smoother ride experience.

Nighttime closures will start at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. The lanes will be closed nightly beginning Monday, March 23 at and will re-open on Saturday morning, March 28.

This work is part of the $177M U.S. 101 (San Mateo County) Multi-Asset Rehabilitation & Roadside Safety Project. The project scope includes paving, guardrail improvements, transportation management system enhancements, drainage upgrades, and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps. The project will bring operational improvements and promote economic vitality in the region. The project is funded by the State’s Highway Operation and Protection Plan (SHOPP), a “fix-it-first” program that funds California highway repair and preservation.

All work is weather dependent. Please drive with caution. Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain our state’s highways, bridges, and tunnels.
