Full Closure Scheduled for Civic Center Drive, Redwood Highway as Part of Manuel T. Freitas Parkway Roundabout Project in San Rafael

Full closure of intersection scheduled to start Thursday, Feb. 26

Marin County - Caltrans is scheduled to close the intersection of Civic Center Drive/Redwood Highway on Thursday, Feb. 26 as part of the Manuel T. Freitas Roundabout Project in San Rafael. The closure will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week

The closure is needed to facilitate utility relocation work. Upon completion of this work, Stage 3 construction will commence and is anticipated to continue through approximately June.

Stage 3 includes the roundabout construction on the east side. There will be a new bus stop constructed as well as a northbound slip on-ramp.

All work is dependent on weather and other factors.

Detour from Northbound US-101 to Civic Center Drive/Scettrini Drive

  • Take the Northbound US-101 off-ramp to Freitas Parkway
  • Drive westbound on Freitas Parkway
  • Drive southbound on Northgate Drive
  • Go eastbound on Las Gallinas Avenue
  • Drive eastbound on Merrydale Road to get to Civic Center Drive/Scettrini Drive

Detour from Northbound US-101 to Redwood Highway

  • Take Northbound US-101 and take the off-ramp to Smith Ranch Road
  • Drive eastbound on Smith Ranch Road
  • Drive southbound on Redwood Highway

Detour from Civic Center Drive/Scettrini Drive to Freitas Parkway/US-101

  • Drive northbound on Civic Center Drive and then westbound on Scettrini Drive
  • Drive westbound on Merrydale Drive
  • Drive northbound on Las Gallinas Avenue
  • Drive northbound on Del Presidio Boulevard
  • Take Manuel T. Freitas Parkway
  • Take the northbound or southbound US-101 on-ramp from Manuel T. Freitas Parkway to get onto US-101

Detour from Southbound Redwood Highway to Southbound US-101

  • Drive southbound on Redwood Highway
  • Drive Northbound US-101 on-ramp from Redwood Highway
  • Take Northbound US-101
  • Take the Northbound US-101 off-ramp to Lucas Valley Road
  • Go westbound on Lucas Valley Road
  • Take Southbound US-101 on-ramp from Lucas Valley Road
  • Take Southbound US-101

Southbound US-101 traffic

  • Southbound US-101 traffic can access the west side of Freitas Parkway and use either Northgate Drive or Del Presidio Boulevard to reach Civic Center Drive.

Also, Caltrans is scheduled to close the Northbound US-101 Freitas off-ramp in the project area from 11 p.m. on Feb. 25 to 5 a.m. on Feb. 26 to accommodate the set-up of temporary traffic devices for full closure.

The project is scheduled to finish in the fall of 2026.
