Caltrans Close to Completion on Northbound Section of 19th Avenue (State Route 1) Rehabilitation Project

San Francisco — Caltrans will complete the northbound parking inlet section of the 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project on Monday, December 15th which began Monday, December 1, 2025, at Sloat Boulevard, moving north toward Lincoln Way. On Monday, December 15, Caltrans begins the southbound parking inlet section of the project at Lincoln Way, moving south toward Sloat Boulevard. These two sections of the project are part of a broader project to rehabilitate 19th Avenue (State Route 1).

Project Details

The project will repave all three lanes in each direction of State Route 1 (19th Avenue) between Lincoln Way and Holloway Avenue, approximately 18.8 lane miles, and Park Presidio Boulevard and California Street intersection.

  • Phase 1:
    • Start Date: December 1, 2025
    • Work will begin at Sloat Boulevard and proceed north toward Lincoln Way and then will continue from Lincoln Way south to Sloat Boulevard.
    • Parking strip/inlet repaving will be completed first before full lane repaving begins.
  • Phase 2:
    • Full lane repaving from Holloway Avenue to Lincoln Way begins Spring 2026.
    • Repaving southbound lanes from Sloat to Holloway is scheduled for June 2026.
    • Work will generally take place Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
    • Nighttime work will be required at the California Street/Park Presidio intersection (10:00 p.m.– 6:00 a.m.).

Traffic Impacts

Phase 1 Traffic Impacts:

Lane Reductions: Throughout phase 1, two lanes always open and one lane closed in the direction of active work. All lanes will be open in the opposite direction.

Phase 2 Traffic Impacts:

Lane Reductions: Throughout phase 2, one lane will be open, and two lanes closed in the direction of active work. All lanes will be open in the opposite direction.

  • Delays: Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes, especially during peak hours (6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.).
  • Bus Stops: Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated. Caltrans will post details about relocations when information is available. Bus riders should check with local transit for updates.
