San Francisco — Caltrans is announcing the start of the 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project, a major effort to restore and improve one of San Francisco’s busiest corridors. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, December 1, 2025, at Sloat Boulevard, moving north toward Lincoln Way as part of Phase 1 of the project.
Project Details
The 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project will repave all six lanes of State Route 1 (19th Avenue) between Lincoln Way and Holloway Avenue, covering 18.8 lane miles. The project also includes repaving the intersection of 19th Avenue, Park Presidio Boulevard, and California Street.
- Phase 1:
- Start Date: December 1, 2025
- Work will begin at Sloat Boulevard and proceed north toward Lincoln Way.
- Parking strip repaving will be completed first before full lane repaving begins.
- Phase 2:
- Full lane repaving from Holloway Avenue to Lincoln Way begins Spring 2026.
- Repaving southbound lanes from Sloat to Holloway is scheduled for June 2026.
- Work will generally take place Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
- Nighttime work will be required at the California Street/Park Presidio intersection (10:00 p.m.– 6:00 a.m.).
Traffic Impacts
- Lane Reductions: Work will always proceed in four, half-block increments with one lane always open in each direction.
- Delays: Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes, especially during peak hours (6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.).
- Bus Stops: Some bus stops may be temporarily relocated. Caltrans will post details about relocations when information is available. Bus riders should check with local transit for updates.
