Contra Costa County — Following the reopening of the Appian Way Overcrossing in the City of Pinole, Caltrans District 4 will begin scheduled maintenance and improvement work on the Appian Way and Cummings Skyway overcrossings. This work is part of a broader infrastructure improvement effort and will require multiple lane and full closures. Please see below for key closure details and timelines:
Cummings Skyway Overcrossing –Rolling Lane Closures on EB I-80
- Start Date: Monday night, August 4, 2025
- Closure Hours: 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- Impact: Alternating Lane closures on eastbound I-80 for overhead work at the Cummings Skyway Overcrossing.
Appian Way Nightly Lane Closures
- Start Date: Monday night, August 11, 2025
- Closure Hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (nightly)
- Impact: Only one southbound lane will remain open during work hours. Alternating Lane closures on westbound and eastbound I-80 for overhead work at the Appian Way Overcrossing.
55-Hour Weekend Full Closure of Southbound Appian Way
- Weekend 1: 7PM Friday, August 16– 5AM Monday, August 18
- Weekend 2: 7PM Friday, August 23 – 5AM Monday, August 25
- Includes Closure of the Northbound Appian Way to westbound I-80 on-ramp
Changeable message signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time.
All work is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026, weather and field conditions permitting.
