Starting Friday Night, July 25 to Monday Morning, July 28
Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Alameda County – Caltrans has scheduled work on southbound Interstate 680 (I-680) at the Mission San Jose (SR-238) Separation/Overpass in Fremont the weekend of July 25, 2025. On Friday, July 25, lane closures are scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM with the full closure and work scheduled to begin at 10:00 PM and be completed by Monday, July 28 at 5:00 AM. This closure is necessary to perform critical bridge and pavement repairs.
These 55-hour closures are necessary to safely and efficiently complete key construction activities, including full bridge deck resurfacing and approach slab repairs. This phase of work involves heavy machinery and the resurfacing of the entire bridge deck. This work must be performed without live traffic to ensure worker and motorists safety. Concentrating these operations during weekend closures will help reduce the overall duration and impact of the project.
During these weekend closures, only one direction of travel on I-680 will be closed at a time with detours set in place. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative routes.
Weeknight work is already underway in preparation for these closures. Additionally, after the major bridge and overlay work is completed, additional work will continue during nighttime closures through Spring 2026, including pavement striping, barrier installation, and other finishing elements. Please note all work is weather dependent and scheduling dependent.
Caltrans thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as we continue to improve California's transportation network
