Alameda County - Caltrans continues work on a larger pavement rehabilitation and barrier construction project on Interstate 580 (I-580) in both directions between Pleasanton and Castro Valley. The project spans from the I-680/I-580 Overcrossing in Pleasanton to the I-580/SR-238 Overcrossing in Castro Valley with ongoing westbound work currently underway.

This project aims to address safety concerns, improve ride quality, and extend the service life of the highway. Key activities include replacing concrete slabs, constructing concrete barriers, and upgrading infrastructure to meet current standards. These improvements will enhance the overall driving experience and ensure the long-term durability of the roadway.

To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, lane closures, shifting traffic patterns, and possible delays should be expected during construction hours.

All work is weather and schedule permitting.

Current Work Schedule:
Nightly multilane closures: Monday through Friday nights
Hours: Eastbound 9:00 PM – 5:00 AM
Westbound 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
Location: EB/WB I-580 from the I-680/I-580 Overcrossing to Eden Canyon Road and Westbound Redwood Rd to State Route 238 Work includes Saw cut, placing individual slabs, forming barriers at Various locations.

Traffic Control Measures:
Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will alert drivers ahead of closures.
At least one lane will remain open in each direction during work hours.

During these hours, the connector, ramps, and lanes may be closed to traffic. Motorists should follow posted detour signs and plan for extra travel time. Motorists can use Caltrans QuickMap (https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/) to check for work locations and potential ramp closures before traveling.
