Schedule: Drivers can expect new conditions on Friday, May 16
Marin County — The Marin-Sonoma Narrows B7 construction project continues in May with k-rail adjustment and ramp closures leading to a traffic shift scheduled for the night of Thursday, May 15 on Northbound US-101 near San Antonio Road. The traffic switch is about 1.5 miles from Atherton Avenue and extends two miles north of San Antonio Road.
In preparation for the final construction phase, northbound traffic will be shifted, traveling on a temporary two-lane alignment with a shoulder. K-rail barriers will be moved to allow crews to finalize the median and the northbound alignment.
Before the shift can occur, crews are scheduled to close the San Antonio Road on- and off-ramps on Northbound US-101 on Tuesday, May 13 between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next morning for K-rail shift and removal. One lane on Northbound US-101 is scheduled to be closed. At least one lane will be open for traffic.
Crews are scheduled to close one lane on Southbound US-101 for a K-rail shift and restripe on Wednesday, May 14 between the same hours. At least one lane will be open for traffic.
The traffic switch is scheduled for Thursday, May 15 between the same hours as crews will be restriping and shifting K-rail. The San Antonio Road on- and off-ramps are scheduled to be closed as well as one lane on Northbound US-101. One lane on Northbound US 101 will be closed on Friday, May 16 between the same aforementioned hours as crews complete the K-rail shift.
The new lanes are part of the final phase of a decade-long widening project in Marin and Sonoma counties meant to relieve traffic congestion on the corridor.
Detour for San Antonio on- and off-ramp closures on Northbound US-101
- San Antonio on-ramp closure: Drivers must enter on US-101 southbound at San Antonio Road, exit at the Atherton Avenue off-ramp and then re-enter US-101 northbound.
- San Antonio off-ramp closure: Drivers must exit at Petaluma Boulevard South/ Kastania Road, enter US-101 southbound, and exit at San Antonio Road
All work depends on weather.
Changeable message and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be on-site during the closures.
This is the last remaining High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane construction project as part of the 16-mile US-101 Marin-Sonoma Narrows (MSN) program. This project will complete and allow continuous HOV lanes on US-101 from Sausalito in Marin County to Windsor in Sonoma County. HOV lanes are scheduled to be open to use in the later part of summer 2025.
Construction includes widening US-101 to install HOV lanes for 3.5 miles along the northbound lanes from North Novato to the Marin, Sonoma line, and for 6.3 miles along the southbound lanes from De Long Avenue to the county line.
