Westbound lanes close for 20 Days; eastbound traffic not affected
Santa Rosa – Caltrans will close the westbound lane on the Hwy 101/Mendocino Avenue overcrossing from Monday, May 5 – Saturday, May 31 to replace bridge railings that are decades old, weather worn, and in need of upgrading to comply with current safety standards.
Westbound traffic will be detoured onto southbound Mendocino Avenue to the Bicentennial Way Overcrossing before 5:00 AM on Monday, May 5 until 9:00 AM, Saturday, May 31.
During the project, work crews will replace the existing banister and tubular bridge railings with a concrete barrier, topped with decorative lattice for visual appeal.
The concrete barriers can withstand greater impacts during collisions and are much easier to maintain and sweep beneath.

From Westbound Fountaingrove Parkway:
- Left onto Mendocino Avenue
- Right onto westbound Bicentennial Avenue to cross Highway 101
From Westbound Mendocino Avenue:
- Right onto Fountaingrove Parkway
- Right onto Bicentennial Way
- Follow Bicentennial Way across Hwy 101
Replacing the bridge railings on Mendocino Avenue is part of a larger project to replace bridge railing on Highway 101 overpasses between Santa Rosa and Healdsburg, including the overcrossing at Fulton Road, Shiloh Road, and Limerick Lane.
The first picture below shows tubular and banister bridge railings. These will be replaced with the concrete barrier topped with lattice as shown in the second picture.
