Full closures occur 11:00 PM – 5:00 AM, Wednesday-Thursday, February 18-19
Update – The concrete girders will be delivered one day earlier than initially scheduled. Therefore, Caltrans will advance the closures by one night. Previously, Caltrans had scheduled the closures to begin on two consecutive nights, Wednesday – Thursday, February 19 – 20. Now the closures will occur on the consecutive nights of Tuesday – Wednesday, February 18-19, 2025
Santa Rosa — As part of the Highway (Hwy) 101/Hearn Avenue Overcrossing Replacement Project in Santa Rosa, Caltrans will close all lanes of Hwy 101 between the Yolanda Street off-ramp and the Colby/Baker Avenue off-ramp in Santa Rosa to allow the installation of eight 120-foot girders that will serve as support for the new Hearn Avenue Overcrossing.
The Hearn Avenue on- and off-ramps, the Yolanda Avenue on-ramp, and the Baker Avenue on-ramp will also be closed simultaneously. The Hearn Avenue Overcrossing itself will remain open and be used as part of the southbound Hwy 101 detour.
The closures will occur from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM on Tuesday - Wednesday, February 18 - 19, 2025. If traffic volumes are low, Caltrans may close one or two freeway lanes on the six-lane freeway as early as 10:00 PM.
During the closure, Caltrans will use a 550-ton crane to hoist girders and place them so they rest on the columns in the center median and abutments on the east and west sides of the freeway.
Detours
Northbound Hwy 101 traffic will exit on Yolanda Avenue, turn left on Santa Rosa Blvd., turn left on Colgan to the Hwy 101 onramp.
Southbound Hwy 101 will exit at Corby Avenue, travel over the freeway, turn right on Santa Rosa Avenue, turn right on Hearn Avenue using the overpass to cross the freeway, left on Corby to the southbound Hwy 101 onramp.

Motorists who would ordinarily enter the freeway via the Hearn Street on-ramp can use the Baker Street on-ramp to the north or the Todd Street on-ramp to the south.
Caltrans and its partners, the Sonoma County Transportation Authority and the City of Santa Rosa, broke ground on the Hearn Avenue Overcrossing Replacement Project in March 2024.
During the project, the existing overcrossing, which has one lane in each direction and a single sidewalk, will be replaced with a new overpass with two traffic lanes per direction, one bicycle lane per direction, and a sidewalk on each side.
