Alameda County – State Route 84 (SR-84) is scheduled to reopen with one-way traffic control between Old Canyon Rd. and Main Street in Sunol the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 22.

The road was closed Monday because the ground underneath deteriorated, which caused a portion of the highway to collapse early Monday morning.

During the closure, crews accomplished a range of tasks, including repairing rock fall netting, clearing vegetation obstructing signage visibility, and installing one-way traffic control signals.

There is an excavator on the left side that is reaching over the barrier to work on the damaged portion of the roadway.

The roadway will reopen around 3 p.m. Thursday, weather and other conditions permitting. A temporary fix is in place and Caltrans is working on a permanent fix.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place to regulate one-way traffic control until repairs can be completed.
