Stenmark Drive on-ramp in Richmond closed as crews assess damage

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY AND MARIN COUNTY — The two far-right lanes remain closed on Westbound Interstate 580 (I-580) as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10 at the toll plaza of the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge due to a crash that happened the night before involving a big rig.

A big rig crashed into the toll plaza around 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9. All lanes were closed, but four reopened around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

No wide-load trucks are allowed on the bridge Those vehicles should take alternate routes such as State Route 37 (SR-37) to get into Marin County.

Also, the Stenmark Drive on-ramp in Richmond onto Westbound I-580 continues to be closed.

Eastbound I-580 on the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge remains fully open.

Changeable message signs in the area have been activated to assist motorists. Drivers should expect delays.

The bicycle lane on the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge is closed on selected dates in October and November to allow Caltrans crews to inspect the bridge and the bike lane as required by regulators.

The bike lane on the bridge is bidirectional, located on the upper deck, or westbound, direction of the bridge.

During the closure, Caltrans will operate a bike shuttle to transport cyclists and their bikes. Pickup/drop-off stations will be located at each end of the bridge: In Richmond at the Stenmark Drive bridge entrance and in San Rafael at the Vista Point.
