ALAMEDA AND SAN MATEO COUNTIES – Caltrans has scheduled to close the Dumbarton Bridge (State Route 84) in the eastbound direction for five nights in October and November 2023 for repaving.
The Dumbarton Bridge will be completely closed in the eastbound direction between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. for five nights, October 30, 31, and November 1, 2 and 3. The bridge will remain open in the westbound direction. During the closure, crews will work to repave the roadway from the end of bridge to the toll plaza, creating a smoother ride for motorists.
The bridge stretches between the City of Menlo Park in San Mateo County and the City of Fremont in Alameda County, connecting two Bay Area counties. The nighttime closures will affect motorists traveling from San Francisco, the San Mateo area and the South Bay to the East Bay.
Signage will be present to guide motorists. Details of the detours appear below.

Detours
Motorists headed to the East Bay from San Francisco and San Mateo can take the San Mateo Bridge (State Route 92) from the City of San Mateo to Hayward.
Motorists headed to Milpitas or Fremont from the South Bay can take Calaveras Boulevard (State Route 237).
