Temporary Bike Path to Open along Redwood Boulevard as Caltrans Continues to Fix Landslide Area in Marin County

Published:

Flaggers will be present to help cyclists near the construction zone

MARIN COUNTY AND SONOMA COUNTY — A temporary bicycle path will open on Redwood Boulevard near Novato on Friday, July 21 while Caltrans continues work on the slide area on the road adjacent to US-101.

The temporary bike path will be restored between Buck Center Drive and San Antonio Road in Marin County. Cyclists will be able to ride from Novato to Petaluma and back without major restrictions and with the assistance of flaggers. However, some construction activities may require temporary stoppages for cyclists during work hours.

Vehicle access through the construction zone on Redwood will continue to be closed. Vehicle traffic on Redwood Boulevard is scheduled to be open in the fall.

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will be placed to let cyclists know about the temporary bike path.

The work by Caltrans and PG&E is necessary due to the slide, which occurred in March after the winter storms. On March 21, there was a landslide detected near Redwood Boulevard and Buck Center Drive in Marin County. Later that month, PG&E built a temporary bypass that avoided the impacted slope and ensured safe operations. US-101 southbound was shut down on the weekend of March 25.

Caltrans, PG&E, and the County of Marin have been in collaboration, monitoring the slide area. Caltrans thanks motorists and cyclists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
