SONOMA COUNTY- Caltrans will begin full-time (24/7) one-way traffic control on State Route 12 (SR-12) near Kenwood in Sonoma County starting on Monday, July 10.

Map showing the location of Sonoma Creek Bridge on State Route 12 in Sonoma County, California. This will allow crews to start the demolition of existing bridge and construction of the new Sonoma Creek Bridge.

One-way traffic control on the Sonoma Creek Bridge will be in place for a maximum of 45 days.

The bridge is being replaced due to problems associated with scour, a process where fast-flowing water whirlpools around the bridge columns and footings, eroding the creek bed that supports the bridge. Over the years, the bridge structural integrity can be strained to the point where replacing the bridge is the best solution.

After one-way traffic control has ceased on the Sonoma Creek Bridge, Caltrans will restore two lanes and allow free flow of traffic. Night time lane closures will continue to complete the remaining section of the bridge.

Hooker Creek bridge replacement on Highway 12 will begin once Sonoma Creek restores two lanes. Traffic will be detoured through Madrone and Agua Caliente roads, detouring traffic around the closure via local roads for about 30 days. Local traffic will be permitted as far as the bridge.
