Niles Canyon Road (SR-84) Closed From Mission Boulevard (SR-238) in Fremont To Main Street in Sunol For Storm Cleanup Until Further Notice

Published:

SUNOL –Niles Canyon Road (State Route 84) will remain closed from Mission Boulevard (State Route 238) in Fremont to Main Street in Sunol as Caltrans crews work 12-hour shifts to clean up debris on the roadway, clear flooding and repair guardrails.

Our hearts go out to the residents of Sunol impacted by the New Year’s Eve storm and the rain continuing to pummel Sunol and the Bay Area. Caltrans crews are working day and night to repair and recover the state-owned areas under our jurisdiction, both in Sunol and throughout the nine Bay Area counties.

SR-84 is currently closed until further notice. The public will be notified as soon as we have an estimate as to the day of reopening.

Caltrans is asking the public to limit nonessential travel. Try to limit your time on the roads during the peak hours of the storm.

Caltrans activated our district emergency operation centers and are working with local partners to respond and recover from the storm.

We are prioritizing staffing, and crews are working 12-hour shifts.

If you must travel:

Before you get on the road, go to the Caltrans website, and check QuickMap for real-time traffic information or call 1-800-427-ROAD.

Because visibility is limited and roads will be slick, we are asking all drivers to slow down and allow themselves plenty of time to reach their destinations safely.

Move Over to allow Caltrans crews, CHP, and other emergency personnel to perform the important tasks needed to keep the roads open and quickly respond to emergencies.

Never drive through moving water. And if you see standing water, use caution; it may be deeper than it appears.
