Northbound I-680 Closures Between SR-84 and Sunol Boulevard In Pleasanton Sunday through Thursday Nights Starting January 8, 2023

Published:

PLEASANTON/ALAMEDA COUNTY ― Overnight closures of northbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton will be implemented nightly Sunday through Thursday nights, starting January 8, 2023.

Nightly roadway closures on I-680 to conduct paving operations had begun earlier this month, occurring Monday through Friday nights. However, due to the slight increase in congestion observed on Friday nights, Caltrans will be revising the nightly closures to occur Sunday through Thursday nights.

Northbound I-680 will be closed from the I-680/State Route 84 junction to the Bernal Avenue exit from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights. The work is part of a project rehabilitating and repaving I-680, replacing entire sections of the roadway to enhance safety and provide motorists a smoother ride.

Closures from the I-680/State Route 84 junction to Sunol Boulevard are scheduled through February 2023. Closures from Sunol Boulevard to Bernal Avenue are scheduled from February 2023 through April 2023.

Regular weekend closures are not anticipated, barring unforeseen circumstances. However, special weekend closures will be implemented during the Martin Luther King holiday weekend and President’s Day weekend. All work is weather-dependent.

California Highway Patrol officers and message signs will be on hand to guide motorists. Detours for the closures are as follows:

Detours

  • Regional detours will be activated to advise motorists coming from the South Bay to take I-880/SR-238/I-580 instead of I-680.

  • For closures between the Koopman Road and Sunol Boulevard interchanges:

    680 North Traffic
Exit I-680 at Calaveras, take Paloma Way, take Pleasanton Sunol Road and re-enter northbound I-680 at Sunol Boulevard.

    580 East Traffic
    Take eastbound SR-84 to I-580.

  • For closures between Sunol Boulevard and Bernal Avenue:
    680 North Traffic
Exit I-680 at Sunol Boulevard, take Bernal Avenue and re-enter the freeway from Bernal Avenue

    580 East Traffic
    Take eastbound SR-84 to I-580.
