TIBURON — Caltrans has started construction to install a new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB), restripe the intersection and remove the existing flashing beacons at Tiburon Boulevard and Stewart Drive in Tiburon (Marin County).

The pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is a traffic control device designed to help pedestrians safely cross higher-speed roadways at midblock crossings and uncontrolled intersections. The beacon head consists of two red lenses above a single yellow lens.

The contractor performed preliminary digging last week (the week of Aug. 15) to locate existing utilities. The work will continue this week, starting Monday, August 22, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Starting on Monday, August 29, the contractor will start installing the new signal pole foundations and underground utility work. This will involve one-way traffic control from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. and is expected to last two weeks. Drivers should expect some delays during this time.

The entire project is expected to last about two months. Weekend work is not expected.

After all electrical work has been completed, the contractor will restripe the intersection under nighttime, one-way traffic control.

Changeable message and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. Please drive with caution. Slow for the Cone Zone and Be Work Zone Alert. Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
