Caltrans to Repave Section of State Route 37 in Sonoma County
Work on a 1.7-mile stretch begins Wednesday, July 7, 2021

SONOMA COUNTY – Caltrans will begin repaving a 1.7-mile section of State Route 37 (SR-37) between Lakeville Highway and the Petaluma River Bridge (Marin County Line) on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

The Petaluma River Bridge will not be paved as part of this project.

Ghilotti Brothers of San Rafael is the contractor on the $2.1 million project, which is expected to take one month to complete. During the project, the top layer of asphalt will be ground from the pavement and replaced with a fresh layer of rubberized asphalt.

Rubberized asphalt contains shredded tires, serving a dual purpose of creating a longer-lasting pavement, and making use of discarded tires that would otherwise languish in landfills.

SR-37 is a four-lane highway in the location of the paving project, with two eastbound and two westbound lanes.

Closure Schedule

  • Westbound closures will occur weekdays 12:00 Noon – 5:00 AM
  • Eastbound closures will occur weekdays from 8:00 PM – 12:00 Noon

Caltrans has scheduled lane closures to correspond with the lighter traffic on reverse commutes. One lane will always be open in each direction during closure hours.
