Traffic Split Southbound I-880 at Fremont-Union City Border
For Bridge Deck Replacement – May 26 - 2021

ALAMEDA COUNTY—Caltrans has scheduled a traffic split for the southbound lanes of Interstate 880 at the Fremont-Union City border to accommodate work on the Patterson Slough Bridge project.

The traffic split starts Monday, May 26, 2021 and will be in effect until November 2021.
The traffic split will accommodate placing of k-rails, removing the median concrete barriers and lane reconfiguration, which is the first stage of a year-long project replacing the bridge deck of the Patterson Slough Bridge to keep it safe for motorists.

To assist motorists, message signs have been placed advising motorists that through traffic on southbound I-880 may use all lanes.

As work progresses, ramp and lane closures and lane splits will be necessary from time to time. Detours will be in effect and public notice of all such measures will be given in advance. Also, pedestrian traffic on the Alameda Creek Trail underneath the bridge will be detoured. Work is weather permitting.

Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience as we work to improve the Bay Area’s highways, bridges and tunnels.
