Caltrans to Shift Traffic Lanes on Highway 101 in Petaluma
Night work, Tuesday April 13 – Friday April 17, to shift lanes toward median

SONOMA COUNTY – As part of a widening project in Petaluma, Caltrans will shift traffic lanes towards the median of Highway 101 between Lakeville Highway (State Route 116) and the Corona overpass. The shift will occur over four nights, Tuesday, April 13 – Friday, April 17, 2021, between 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open during the closures.

By moving traffic towards the median, Caltrans will create room to convert the outside shoulders into new traffic lanes, part of the widening project. As always, Caltrans urges motorists to use added caution when encountering a new lane alignment.

Caltrans is widening the highway by adding a carpool lane to northbound and southbound Highway 101, creating a six-lane freeway of three lanes in each direction.

The project is one of 13 projects in the larger Marin/Sonoma Narrows widening project to add a carpool lane in each direction of Highway 101 between State Route 37 in Marin and Corona Road in northern Petaluma.
