Southbound I-880 Overnight Lane Closures at Fremont-Union City Border
For Bridge Deck Replacement Early April – Mid-May 2021

ALAMEDA COUNTY—Caltrans has scheduled overnight lane closures on northbound and southbound Interstate 880 at the Fremont-Union City border from early April through mid-May to accommodate work on the Patterson Slough Bridge project.

Southbound I-880 Overnight Lane Closures at Fremont-Union City Border

Lane closures on northbound and southbound I-880 between Decoto Road and the Alvarado-Niles over-crossing will begin at 10 p.m., with the lanes reopening at 5 a.m. the following morning. At least one lane will be open at all times.  Work is weather permitting.

The lane closures will accommodate placing of k-rails, removing the median concrete barriers and lane reconfiguration, which is the first stage of a year-long project replacing the bridge deck of the Patterson Slough Bridge to keep it safe for motorists.

As work progresses, ramp and lane closures and lane switches will be necessary from time to time. Detours will be in effect and public notice of all such measures will be given in advance. Also, pedestrian traffic on the Alameda Creek Trail underneath the bridge will be detoured.
Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience as we work to improve the Bay Area’s highways, bridges and tunnels.
