U.S. 101 San Francisco Wet Pavement Project
Long-Term Overnight Lane Closures
Noise and Delays Anticipated for Roadway Improvements

SAN FRANCISCO – Caltrans is scheduled for long-term overnight lane closures in San Francisco on U.S. 101 between 3rd Street and Vermont Street for pavement improvement work. Noise and delays are anticipated during the work.

The roadway will be reduced to one lane in both directions starting in late April 2021 on Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) U.S. 101 between 3rd Street and Vermont Street every Monday through Saturday from 8 PM to 6AM and last through January 2022.

The purpose of this project is to decrease wet pavement (hydroplaning) accidents by increasing the pavement friction of the roadway. Work will include saw cutting, grinding, replacing, paving, and resurfacing various sections of asphalt concrete (A/C) pavement on the highway. An additional benefit will include the improvement of water surface run off.

We regret the noise and delays associated with the project and ask for motorists to reduce their speeds approaching the project site and plan ahead. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain our state highways.
