Utility Undergrounding 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday, March 8 – Friday, March 26

SONOMA COUNTY – Caltrans will close one lane of State Route 1 (SR-1) north of Bodega Bay between Calle de Sol and Rock Point Beach from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM beginning as early as Monday, March 8, until Friday, March 26, 2021 – excluding weekends. 2021-03-05 SR1 Traffic Control Sonoma map 1

The closures will allow PG&E to underground electric services and remove power poles along the three-quarter-mile stretch of highway.

Lane closures will occur only in the southbound direction and will be limited to about a quarter-mile span at a time. Flaggers will direct one-way traffic control during the closures.

The utility undergrounding precedes the Gleason Beach Realignment Project due to begin in July 2021. The project will reconstruct the highway, moving it inland as far as 400-feet, bypassing the rapidly eroding cliffs along Gleason Beach. The project also includes building an 850-foot bridge to span Scotty Creek, which currently runs through a culvert beneath the highway.
