US 101 Overnight Closures
for Overhead Sign Replacement Work in San Mateo County
February 28 – March 4, 2021 - 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM

SAN MATEO COUNTY — Caltrans has scheduled separate full overnight closures of southbound and northbound US 101, beginning Sunday, February 28 to Thursday, March 4, for overhead sign replacement work. Caltrans will remove 5 overhead sign bridges between Millbrae Avenue and South Airport Boulevard between the cities of Millbrae and South San Francisco.

Nightly closures will be in one direction.

  • Southbound US 101 - February 28, March 1, and March 2 – Between South Airport Blvd to San Bruno Avenue, 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM
  • Northbound US 101 - March 3 and March 4 – between Millbrae Avenue to San Bruno Avenue,11:00 PM to 4:00 AM

Southbound Closure Detour:

Exit southbound US 101 at the Produce Avenue/South Airport Boulevard off- ramp, in the City of South San Francisco. Follow detour signs to South Airport Boulevard with access to I 380 or continue to San Bruno Avenue to return to southbound US 101. Northbound traffic will be unaffected.

Northbound Closure Detour:

Exit northbound US 101 at the Millbrae Avenue off-ramp, in the City of Millbrae. Motorists will then be able to choose between two detour routes, El Camino

Real with access to I 380 or McDonnell Road and back on to northbound US 101 at San Bruno Avenue. Southbound traffic will be unaffected.

Changeable message and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be on site during the closures.
