One Additional Northbound Interstate 680 Lane
to Open Between Fremont and Sunol on October 29, 2020
SUNOL—Caltrans, along with its partner the Alameda County Transportation Commission, has scheduled to open the new express lane on northbound Interstate 680 from Fremont to Sunol to traffic on October 29, 2020.
The new express lane on northbound I-680 is between the Grimmer Undercrossing and Calaveras Road/Highway 84 and will now be open to carpools with 2 or more persons, vanpools, motorcycles, and transit vehicles. This will help to relieve congestion along one of the busiest corridors in the Bay Area. Tolling operations will begin in spring 2021.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of the express lane will be held on October 29, 2020.
