Safety Improvements For Traffic Signals At Several Intersections Involving Intermittent And Daytime Lane Closures Though December 2020

San Francisco – Caltrans has scheduled intermittent daytime and overnight lane closures on Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) State Route 1 (SR-1) through December 2020 for the safety improvements of the traffic signal poles located at the intersections of Lake Street, Crossover Drive, Crespi Drive, and Martin Luther King Drive.  SFPD and flaggers will be on scene directing traffic.  We ask motorists to reduce their speeds through the area, expect delays, and plan ahead.

The previous traffic signal poles were not as tall in height or positioned on corner curbs, medians, and/or islands so they were somewhat difficult for drivers to see or accidents would knock them over.  These new traffic signal poles are taller, larger, longer, positioned more effectively, and their arm masts extend further into the sight line of drivers, therefore improving visibility and overall, increasing safety.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work maintain the safety of our state roadways and highways.
