Bicycle lane and one westbound traffic lane to close night of Sept. 26, 2020
Bicycle shuttle available during closure
Contra Costa & Marin counties - Caltrans will close the bicycle lane and the adjacent westbound lane on the upper deck of the I-580 Richmond-San Rafael Bridge at 9:00 PM Saturday, September 26, until 11:00 AM Sunday, September 27, 2020.
The closure is in addition to the one-night bicycle lane closure for cleaning and maintenance which typically occurs during the third week of every month. The next such closure is scheduled for Tuesday evening, October 13 until the following morning.
During the September 26 closure, Caltrans will operate a bike shuttle to transport cyclists and their bikes across the bridge. Pickup/drop-off stations will be located at each end of the bridge: In Richmond at the Stenmark Drive entrance to the bridge path, and in San Rafael at the Vista Point.
Caltrans staff will be stationed at each location to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs with the shuttle operator.
During the closure, work crews will replace pavement on the western end of the bridge that was damaged during a car fire.
Caltrans will keep one lane of westbound traffic open throughout the closure. Westbound motorists should expect delays.
Eastbound lanes, the lower deck, will not be affected.
