State Route 16 Vision Zero Shoulder Widening
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Caltrans is proposing safety improvements on State Route 16 near Cadenasso in Yolo County, from approximately 0.3 mile east of County Road 79 to 0.2 mile west of County Road 81. Construct 4-foot shoulders, rumble strips, and retaining wall, rehabilitate drainage systems, and upgrade signs and guardrail.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this proposed project is to improve traveling public safety and reduce the severity and number of collisions within the project vicinity.
NEED:
The segment of State Route 16 in Yolo County from PM 21.20 to PM 21.90 is listed on the 2022 Vision Zero Monitoring Report. During the period from 01/01/2019 to 12/31/2020, 1 fatal collision and 2 serious injury collisions occurred in this segment. Shoulder widths within the project limits vary from no shoulder to (2) two feet which leaves limited room for vehicles to take corrective action before leaving the roadway. In addition, this roadway does not have the width to incorporate rumble strips along existing shoulders.
Funding:
The project is funded through the 2024 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) Safety Improvement Program.
