Project Description
In South Lake Tahoe along U.S. Highway 50 (US 50), from State Route 89 (the “Y”) to Pioneer Trail. Install lighting on both sides of US 50, 4 pedestrian flashing signals at mid-block crosswalks, new signs, and green bike lane treatment to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. The intersection of Johnson Boulevard and US 50 will be signalized and the roadway will be restriped.
Purpose and Need
The purpose of the proposed project is to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety between the US 50/State Route 89 “Y” intersection and Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe.
There is a need to reduce the number of fatalities and severe injuries from bicycle collisions along this stretch of the US 50 corridor. Most of the bicycle collisions occurred at night, and the project provides corrective action to address bicyclist-involved collisions.
This project was programmed in the 2018 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) and funded through the 20.XX.201.010 - Safety Improvement Program.
