State Route 20 Lynch Canyon
Project Description:
Near Williams, from 0.6 mile east to 1.2 mile east of Lake County line; also at the intersection with Route 16 (PM 3.5). Upgrade existing signs, add new signs and flashing beacons, grind and replace existing pavement with asphalt and High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST), and upgrade guardrail to improve safety.
Purpose And Need :
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to improve safety for motorists, reduce the number of collisions and update operational features to current standards
Need:
This section of Route 20 (PM R0.6/R1.2) of roadway reported a total of 27 collisions in a recent 4-year period (06/01/2017 – 05/31/2021) involving 0 fatalities plus 11 injuries. At this location the actual fatal plus injury (F+I) collision rate is above the statewide average fatal plus injury (F+I) collision rate. Pavement skid resistance does not meet current standards.
