South Lake Tahoe Capital Preventive Maintenance Project
Project Description:
On U.S. Highway 50 (Lake Tahoe Boulevard) in the City of South Lake Tahoe, from east of Blue Lake Avenue to the Nevada state line. Rehabilitate pavement and drainage systems, upgrade facilities to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and replace Transportation Management System (TMS) elements.
Purpose And Need:
The purpose of this project is to grind and pave the current pavement anticipated to be in poor condition by 2026, extending from Trout Creek Bridge to the Nevada state line. The primary goal is to preserve and extend the service life of the pavement. Additionally, the project aims to improve safety by addressing components of the Traffic Management System (TMS), adding more signage, complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by installing curb ramps and new sidewalks or replacing existing ones that do not meet current standards. Furthermore, the project will include the rehabilitation or replacement of culverts rated as fair or poor condition to support the traffic load and ensure proper functionality
- Pavement: A total of 12.5 lane miles of existing pavement on Highway 50 from the Trout Creek bridge to the Nevada state line will be ground, paved and restriped
- Drainage: Rehabilitate or replace 29 culverts
- Traffic Management System (TMS): The project includes the addition of one Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), one Variable Message Sign (VMS), and a census station that consists of one CCTV and four Microwave Vehicle Detection Systems (MVDS).
