Purpose And Need:

Purpose:

The purpose of this project is to address the existing fish passage barrier, improve wildlife connectivity, reduce the risk of upstream channel clogging, repair scour within the right of way downstream of the bridge, and enhance safety. Additionally, the project aims to upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities to meet current standards.

Need:

The existing Meeks Creek channel currently obstructs fish passage due to a vertical drop caused by channel incision. The bridge itself creates a hydraulic bottleneck, leading to backwater effects in the meadow and accelerated erosive flows downstream. The bridge railings are deteriorating, and significant scour damage is present. The roadway lacks pedestrian/bicycle facilities connecting trails/campgrounds in the vicinity of the project.

Scope Of Work:

  • Structure: Replace existing Meeks Creek box culverts with a single span bridge.
  •  Channel: Remove fish passage barrier and restore Meeks Creek channel.
  • Pavement: Place embankment, pavement and stripe as needed.
  • Traffic Management System (TMS):
  • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV).
  • Variable Message Sign (VMS).
  • Safety: Place Class II bicycle lane with markings and sidewalk.

Funding:

This project is programmed in the 2024 SHOPP and is funded from the Federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

Cost Estimate:

 Total Project Cost $25 million
