Interstate 5 Glenn County Rehabilitation Project

Project Description:

Near Orland, from north of County Road 28 to Tehama County line.  Rehabilitate pavement, upgrade facilities to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, rehabilitate drainage systems, replace concrete barrier and guardrail, and upgrade signs and Transportation Management System (TMS) elements.

Purpose And Need:

Purpose:
The purpose of the project is to preserve and extend the service life of the existing pavement. Preserve the deck integrity of County Road 16 overcrossing, due to frequency and magnitude of cracking. Any deficiency of drainage systems within the project limits will be addressed so their service life can be extended. Safety will also be improved as upgrades to non-standard MGS and upgrades/replacement to TMS elements will be done, as well as upgrading ADA ramps to current standards.

Need:
This project is necessary to preserve the drivability and serviceability of the roadway as pavement conditions have deteriorated over time. The bridge deck at County Road 16 (Br. No. 11-0074) has been identified with having frequency and magnitude of cracking on the deck. Multiple sign panels, existing guardrail, gore paving, Maintenance Vehicle Pullouts (MVP), and striping have been identified as being in substandard condition. Several culverts have an existing health rating below the threshold of 60 and consequently need to be repaired or replaced. Multiple curb ramps are non-ADA compliant, and ADA compliant curb ramps are needed to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.

Funding:

This project was programmed in the 2022 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) and funded through the 20.xx.201.121 Pavement Preservation Program.
