PURPOSE AND NEED:
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate elements of the West Branch Feather River Bridge (Br. No. 12-0134) to ensure the ongoing serviceability of Route 70. The existing Metal-Beam Guardrail (MBGR) within the vicinity of the bridge will also be upgraded to current Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) standards.
Need:
The existing West Branch Feather River Bridge (Br. No. 12-0134) features deteriorating timber planks within the upper catwalk. The existing Span 7 multi-layer epoxy overlay shows signs of failure, resulting in exposed bare concrete. The existing bridge joints are reaching the end of their service life and require replacement. In addition, the existing MBGR within the immediate vicinity of the bridge requires upgrading to the Midwest Guardrail System (MGS).
FUNDING:
The project was programmed into the 2026 State Highway Operations and Protection Program (SHOPP) under Program Code 20.XX.201.110 – Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement.
